However, they opened fire and tried to speed away. Police returned fire, after which one suspect, identified as Mohammed Qasim alias Maani, was arrested in wounded condition while his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.

The DIG said that the held suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.

Later, it transpired that the killed suspect had murdered a citizen, Shakir Sultan, in the presence of his teenage son on the third day of Eidul Fitr in DHA, the DIG said, adding that the pistol used in the murder had also been recovered.

Boat Basin SHO Malik Riaz said Maani had a past criminal record and there were three FIRs registered against him in 2017, 2020 and 2021. He was enlarged on bail.
