KARACHI: A suspected robber was gunned down in an alleged encounter in Clifton early on Wednesday morning, police said.
DIG-SOuth Syed Asad Raza said a police patrol signalled two men roaming suspiciously in the area on a motorcycle near the Sunrise Apartments in Block-1. However, they opened fire and tried to speed away. Police returned fire, after which one suspect, identified as Mohammed Qasim alias Maani, was arrested in wounded condition while his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.
The DIG said that the held suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.
Later, it transpired that the killed suspect had murdered a citizen, Shakir Sultan, in the presence of his teenage son on the third day of Eidul Fitr in DHA, the DIG said, adding that the pistol used in the murder had also been recovered.
Boat Basin SHO Malik Riaz said Maani had a past criminal record and there were three FIRs registered against him in 2017, 2020 and 2021. He was enlarged on bail.
Woman gunned down in Ahsanabad
A woman was shot dead in Ahsanabad on Wednesday, police and rescue services officials said.
They added that Salkho Nisa, 44, was shot and killed by the firing of two unknown motorcyclists inside her home in Phase-III.
East police spokesperson in a statement said that the suspects opened straight fire on her face and chest. They did not take away anything.
