RAWALPINDI: Like Punjab, the federal government has decided to establish a Special Protection Unit (SPU) and Dolphin Force in Islamabad for the security of foreigners working at different projects of national importance.

The issues hampering the establishment of Dolphin Force and Special Protection Unit (SPU) in Islamabad came under discussion at a top-level meeting held recently to review the decision taken and directions given by the prime minister.

The prime minister directed the secretary finance to remove hurdles to establishment of the two units of police in Islamabad, sources said.

Special Protection Unit (SPU) was created in Punjab on Oct 23, 2014 asa dedicated unit for the security of foreigners working at different projects of national importance.

Keeping in view the job requirement, security constables were imparted six months rigorous training in four police training schools of the province by the professional trainers. The SPU personnel have been providing foolproof security day and night to Chinese working at different projects and also providing security to the Chinese residing in different areas. Dolphin Force, an elite unit of the Punjab police was launched by the then Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore in 2016 to focus on combating street-crime.

The Dolphin Force was expanded to the other cities in the province including Rawalpindi.
