ISLAMABAD, May 3: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday ruled out dissolution of assemblies prior to completion of their constitutional tenure.
Talking to Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain and members of treasury benches in his Presidential Chamber in the Parliament House here, he said the chapter of assemblies’ dissolution prior to completion of their constitutional tenure had been closed forever.
He vowed to strengthen constitutional institutions so that democracy could flourish in the country.
President Musharraf was confident that with the completion of constitutional tenure of legislatures, democracy and constitution would be strengthened.
He assured protection of the rights of minorities, women, children and oppressed classes.
MNAs who called on President Musharraf in his chamber included Sardar Shah Jahan Yousuf (Mansehra), Rashid Akbar Khan (Bhakkar) and M. P. Bhandara (minorities).
Earlier, the speaker received President Musharraf on his arrival and escorted him to his chamber.—PPI
