CHINIOT: City police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly harassing a woman district education officer (DEO) and impersonating son of PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah.

Reports said Chiniot DEO Khadeeja Bokhari was sitting in her office when a man claiming to be the son of Rana Sanaullah entered the office of Superintendent Haji Asif. He asked the superintendent to call the DEO out, saying he needed to speak with her.

He was informed that a meeting was in progress with assistant education officers and was asked to wait. However, he began threatening and misbehaving with the clerical staff, prompting the officials to call Rescue-15.

Upon arrival, the police found that the suspect could not verify his claim of being Rana Sanaullah’s son. He was identified as Rehman, son of Nasir Khokhar, a resident of Satellite Town, Chiniot.

The police arrested him and took him to the City police station, where a case was registered against him under Sections 506 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

A day earlier, Ms Bokhari had received a WhatsApp call, during which the caller, again claiming to be the son of Rana Sanaullah, demanded favours regarding the approval of a female teacher’s leave.

Following the incident, the district education officer wrote a letter to District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Zafar Iqbal, urging him to take notice of the situation and implement measures to protect female staff from harassment.

Meanwhile, Punjab Teachers Union leader Nazakat Ali Baloch condemned the incident, calling it a blatant interference in educational affairs. He urged the Punjab education minister to take immediate notice, investigate the harassment of female officers and ensure their protection from such individuals.

INJURED: A man injured his mother-in-law and a minor daughter over a quarrel with his wife.

Nisar Bashir, a resident of Hafizabad district, had been married to Fizza Batool, daughter of Faisal Bashir of Salara Road, Chiniot City, for several years. However, due to Nisar’s abusive behaviour, Fizza had returned to her parents’ home.

On Friday night, Nisar Bashir armed with a pistol and accompanied by his accomplices Shoukat (son of Sadiq) and Gullo Bibi, forcibly entered the house. Nisar allegedly threatened to “teach the family a lesson” for not sending his wife back with him. During the confrontation, Nisar and Shoukat opened fire, injuring Hajra Bibi, Nisar’s mother-in-law. In an attempt to shoot his wife Fizza, Nisar accidentally shot his own two-year-old daughter, Masooma.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to DHQ Hospital, Chiniot.

City police have registered a case against the suspects under Sections 324, 148, and 149 of PPC and have launched an investigation.

ACCIDENT: Two women died and four children injured as a result of a collision between two mini-trucks.

Reports said two mini-trucks collided with each other at Chiniot-Kandiwal Road as a result of which two women sitting on the front cabin of a truck died on the spot while four children were injured who were shifted to THQ Hospital Lalian.

The women were identified as Nazia Bibi (38) and Sumaira Bibi (25). The injured children include Salman (10), Noman (10), Yasmin (13) and Suleman (12).
