ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasised that Pakistan’s leadership at the International Senate Conference (ISC) symbolised the country’s firm commitment to global dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Speaking at a reception he hosted in the capital to celebrate his unanimous appointment as the founding chairman of ISC, Mr Gilani noted that the conference would serve as a vital platform to tackle global challenges that transcend borders, particularly climate change, renewable energy and water scarcity.

A statement issued here on Friday said that the event brought together senators, provincial assembly speakers and international dignitaries, marking what Yousaf Raza Gilani described as a proud moment not just for himself, but for the entire nation.

In his address, the Senate chairman emphasised that Pakistan’s leadership at the ISC symbolised the country’s firm commitment to global dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. He noted that the ISC would serve as a vital platform to tackle global challenges that transcend borders, particularly climate change, renewable energy and water scarcity.

“These are issues that require joint solutions. Pakistan is ready to play a leading role,” he remarked.

Highlighting his vision for multilateral diplomacy, Yousaf Raza Gilani shared that Pakistan had initiated a climate-smart technology partnership with the Korea Water Resources Corporation. This collaboration aimed to enhance Pakistan’s capacity in climate resilience and sustainable water management, key areas for future development.

“This initiative will bring long-term benefits by building our technical expertise,” he said.

The Senate chairman stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary relations as a foundation for advancing Pakistan’s soft image on the global stage. Referring to Pakistan’s diplomatic heritage, he emphasised that Pakistan’s foreign policy had always been rooted in justice, equality, and international cooperation.

The chairman also highlighted Pakistan’s active engagement in forums like the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and Inter-Parliamentary Union.

He pointed out the country’s recent participation in meetings held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, including support for Azerbaijan’s continued leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN).

These engagements, he said, had helped strengthen Pakistan’s ties with Central Asia while projecting the country’s economic potential.

The Senate chairman outlined a bold vision for the ISC as a hub for constructive dialogue and meaningful action.

“The Seoul Declaration provides a roadmap for global peace and shared prosperity,” he stated. The statement said he envisioned the ISC as a space where countries can collaborate to green their economies, share renewable technologies, and ensure fair water distribution.

Mr Gilani called for deeper international cooperation and proactive diplomacy, underscoring the importance of preparing Pakistan’s youth, entrepreneurs, and diplomats for the opportunities ahead, especially in areas such as CPEC, food security, AI and sustainable agriculture.

“Where diplomacy leads, trade and development follow,” he said, expressing optimism for Pakistan’s growing influence in shaping global conversations.
