KARACHI: A 19-year-old girl was killed in ‘celebratory firing’ carried out during a marriage ceremony in New Karachi late on Wednesday night, police and rescue services officials said.

Area SHO Faizul Hasan said that Laiba Ahmed Ali was studying for her exam at the roof of her house in sector-11-D when a bullet hit her on the head, killing her on the spot.

The officer said that the aerial firing was carried out during a marriage ceremony. He said the police had registered a murder case against six nominated persons on complaint of the victim’s family. Out of them, three suspects had been arrested and two pistols recovered. The officer said the bridegroom had also been nominated in the case.
