KARACHI, May 3: An employee of the city government was shot dead by unknown persons in Malir on Wednesday. Police said Syed Azfar, 55, was operating a water tanker meant for watering the greenbelt in Malir 15, when unknown persons on a motorcycle pulled up, opened fire at him and fled.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Later police sent the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.

A duty officer of the Malir City police station said the victim’s brother Sher Afzal had lodged an FIR nominating some suspects, suggesting that the killing was the result of personal enmity.

The victim hailed from Sawat and lived in Kumarwara in the old city area, police said.
