TAXILA: A suspect wanted in multiple murder, attempted murder and terrorism-related cases was killed during a ‘shootout’ with police in Attock on Tuesday.

According to a police statement, the suspect was shot dead by his own associates as they attempted to flee. No police personnel were injured in the exchange of fire.

A case was registered on behalf of the state against the deceased suspect’s three accomplices who managed to escape.

Soon after the incident, senior police officials arrived at the scene and collected circumstantial evidence.

A police spokesperson said that acting on a tip-off about the presence of criminals who were wanted in multiple murder, attempted murder and terrorism-related cases, a team from Attock Saddar police raided their hideout near Golra village in the early hours of Tuesday.

Upon spotting the police, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire and fled.

The spokesperson claimed that during the exchange of fire, one suspect—later identified as Uzair Anwar—was injured by bullets fired by his own companions as they escaped under the cover of gunfire.

He was reportedly wanted in several murder, attempted murder and other cases.

Before succumbing to his injuries at a local hospital, Uzair Anwar allegedly told police that he was shot by his ring leader.

Police have launched a hunt to arrest the remaining fugitives and a probe has been initiated.
