ISLAMABAD: The Counter-Terrorism Department of the capital police has arrested a man for allegedly spreading terror by making videos of sensitive installations and posting them on social media.

A case has been registered with the CTD police station against the suspect.

A CTD team got information about the suspect’s presence in Kiani Road Bhara Kahu along with explosives. In response, the team reached the location and with the assistance of an informer spotted the suspect.

Later, the suspect was taken into custody and the team recovered a bag from him. Explosive material weighing 675grams, five-foot-long safety fuse and wires, two detonators, nut-bolts and nails weighing 730 grams were recovered from the bag, said the police.

The suspect is a native of Northern Waziristan. According to the preliminarily investigation, the suspect disclosed his affiliation with the outlawed TTP’s Noor Wali Mahsood group. He confessed that under the directives of Mahsood, he had planned to target important personalities to spread terror and fear among people.

The police said the suspect had made videos of sensitive installations, including Convention Centre and Faisal Mosque and posted them on social media on behalf of the terror outfit.

When the video of Faisal Mosque went viral on social media in February, the US embassy had issued an advisory for its employees stating that TTP militants had issued threats against the mosque in Islamabad.

The embassy’s regional security office had prohibited its employees from going to the mosque till further notice.

The CTD team also recovered the suspect’s a mobile phone and the videos which were uploaded on social media.
