The Hamas delegation in Cairo is engaged in talks on ending Israel’s war on Gaza and opening border crossings for humanitarian aid, Al Jazeera says, citing Egypt’s Ahram Online newspaper.

Hamas also said it was discussing rebuilding Gaza and unifying Palestinian institutions in the Strip and the Israeli-occupied West Bank in coordination with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, Ahram reported.

Hamas described its approach to the talks as “responsible and positive”, and said that it was “open to any new proposals so long as they were based on ending the war and ensuring a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza”.

But it warned against reducing negotiations to a prisoner swap deal, only for Israel to resume military operations afterwards.

“The Palestinian people and their resistance are well aware of the occupation’s intentions and internal political games,” the group was quoted as saying.
