KASUR: A-Division police on Sunday lodged a criminal case against 42 Ahmadis on charge of converting a house into a worship place at Shami Shaheed locality. Two of the suspects were nominated while 40 were unidentified in the first information report (FIR).

The case was registered under Section 298(C) of the PPC which criminalises certain acts by members of the Ahmadi community, including calling themselves Muslims or referring to their faith as Islam.

The case was registered after the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Nadeem Akhtar Tabasum issued orders following a writ petition filed under sections 22 (A) and 22 (B) of CrPC.

According to the petitioner, two members of the Ahmadiyya community, identified in the FIR, and 40 unidentified had converted a house at Shami Shaheed locality into a worship place and named it as Darul Zikar. He contended that the Ahmadis were offering their regular prayers as well as Juma and Eid prayers at this worship place. He claimed that Ahamdis had no legal right to do so and they had not obtained any permission from any authority.

CELEBRATORY FIRE: A man was shot dead in firing in a wedding at village Bugri in the limits of Saddar police.

Unidentified wedding guests resorted to jubilation firing at the wedding of one Muhammad Javaid at village Bugri. During the firing, 40-year-old Iqbal suffered bullet injuries.

He succumbed to his injuries as he was being rushed to the DHQ Hospital.

Earlier, on Saturday, a 15-year-old Savera also suffered serious bullet injuries during firing in a wedding at village Chhabar Kalan in the limits of Kanganpur Police Station. The incident happened as the Mehndi ceremony of one Waseem was being held.

The girl was shifted to the Rural Health Centre, Kanganpur, for treatment.
