GILGIT: Pakistan Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle banned items, including mobile phones and security cameras, worth over Rs700 million from China to Pakistan through Khunjerab Pass.

According to officials on a tip-off, Customs officials raided imported consignments placed for custom clearance at Sost Dry Port.

During the raid, the officials recovered 17,613 mobile phones, including iphones, 48 security cameras, items of weapons and other banned goods. Official sources said these items were separated and concealed near the place where consignments were stored for inspection before clearance.

The total market value of these goods was estimated to be over Rs700 million.

The goods have been seized by Pakistan Customs and cases registered against unknown persons and investigations started launched.
