The Gaza Government Media Office has demanded the opening of an independent international investigation into Israel’s killing of 15 Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and civil defence workers after new video evidence contradicted the military’s account of the killings, Al Jazeera reports.

“We demand an urgent and independent international investigation into the crime of executing medical and civil defence personnel, and bringing the Israeli occupation’s war criminals before the International Criminal Court,” the Media Office said in a statement.

The new video evidence “exposes the lies of the Israeli occupation army”, it added.

The call was made after new video emerged on Saturday, which shows that Israeli forces attacked clearly identifiable PRCS ambulances — with lights flashing — and emergency medical workers and civil defence staff wearing highly reflective uniforms.

Israel’s military had claimed the fleet of emergency vehicles “were identified advancing suspiciously toward [Israeli] troops without headlights or emergency signals”.

The video evidence, found on a phone belonging to one of the medics who was killed by Israeli forces and buried in a mass grave, was published by The New York Times earlier.
