GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency arrested three human traffickers, including a most-wanted trafficker whose name is part of FIA’s ‘red book’ during the ongoing crackdown in Gujranwala and Gujrat regions.

A senior FIA official told Dawn Muhammad Tanvir, among the most-wanted human traffickers, was arrested from Sandhuan, Gujranwala, for sending deportees to Europe via Turkiye for overseas employment in 2019-20 but did not fulfill his commitment.

FIA Gujranwala circle arrested Muhammad Imran of Wahndo, Kamonki, for extorting an amount of Rs7.2 million from immigrant Muhammad Yaseen, also of Wahndo, for sending him to Spain for employment. However, the accused sent the intending immigrant to Mauritania, where agents forced him to travel by sea route but he refused and returned to Pakistan.

Similarly, he said another human smuggler Ghulam Ghous of Jalalpur Jattan, Gujrat, had been arrested for extorting Rs1,750,000 from the complainant for sending him to Greece on an employment visa and settling them there. The accused, however, neither fulfilled his commitment nor returned the amount.

Abdul Qadir Qamar, Director FIA Gujranwala Zone, said the crackdown against human traffickers had been accelerated in the region.

He said that FIA would strive to get these criminals convicted by courts.
