HARIPUR: A driver was killed and at least 22 passengers were injured in two road accidents reported from different parts of the city, police and rescue sources said here on Friday evening.

Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a Haripur bound Toyota Hiace carrying 16 passengers collided with a motor car near the Chechian Interchange of Hazara Motorway, as a result all the passengers including the driver were injured.

The reason behind the accident was not yet known, rescue sources said and added that the injured passengers who included some women and children had been shifted to Trauma Centre where the condition of three passengers was stated to be serious.

In another road accident near Jahaz Chowk on GT Road, a high roof van crashed with a roadside tree killing the driver on the spot while six passengers were injured, two of them seriously. The cause of death was reckless driving, eyewitnesses and police said.

Rescue and hospital sources said that the driver who died on the spot was identified as Sajid Salim, a resident of Khalabat Township.
