KARACHI, April 29: The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, visited the Department of Genetics, University of Karachi, on Saturday.

He went round various sections of the building of the department, visited its labs besides ascertaining the academic and research requirements there.

Prof Atta shed light on the steps being taken by the government for strengthening higher education in the country. He pointed out that substantial increase had been effected in the allocation for the higher education.

Dr Atta said that every year, 500 students were sent abroad for pursuing PhD education in Germany, France and Sweden besides Australia and New Zealand.—APP
