LARKANA: A group of suspected criminals and their associates attacked SHO of Garilo police station with batons and stones in Mehrabpur village late on Friday night and left him critically injured.

The SHO, Inspector Mir Mohammad Khoso, was immediately transported to Trauma Centre at Chandka Medical College Hospital and provided emergency treatment. He was later shifted to Aga Khan Hospital, Karachi.

The SHO had reached Mehrabpur village in the jurisdiction of Dokri police station in hot pursuit of some bike riders who sped away when police signaled them to stop during snap-checking of vehicles, said police officials. He warned the suspects to come out of the house where they had taken refuge and as he stood there, the criminals’ supporters and villagers attacked him with batons and stones, inflicting injury on his head and fracturing his ribs, said the officials.

Later, police launched a search operation in the area and picked up six suspects, according to spokesman for Larkana SSP Ahmed Chaudhry.
