TAXILA: The central leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was gunned down in an apparent incident of target killing in the jurisdiction of Attock city police station late Friday night, party sources said.

Qari Nizamuddin, the city deputy emir of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), was on his way home after Taraweeh prayers at the local mosque, where he also ran a seminary. He was shot by masked men near Khattak Colony, killing him on the spot.

Police and law enforcement agencies arrived shortly after the incident and collected evidence. Later, his body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital. His funeral was offered on Saturday and he was laid to rest in his native village, Jhammt in tehsil Jand for burial.

JUI-F Punjab chief Maulana Mahmood Mian slammed the provincial government over its failure in protecting the lives and property of innocent citizens and also condemned the recent target killing of JUI-F leaders.
