DADU: Two SHOs and several policemen and villagers were injured when residents of Saharabad village reacted violently over arrest of some suspects during and after a raid on a suspected gambling den on Sunday.

The raid was conducted by a police team led by Jamshoro SHO Khair Mohammad Mallah and Coalmines SHO Zahid Jhatyal. Both the officers, along with constable Mahmood (a police van driver), were injured in the violent reaction.

Reports from the area suggested that a large number of villagers started pelting police and their vehicles with stones while police were escorting away four detained suspects — Ali Gul, Jamshed, Madad Ali and Bahadur — to some undisclosed place.

Police fired shots into the air to disperse them when the officers and constable were hit with stones.
