Pakistan capture title

ISLAMABAD, April 26: Pakistan earned a berth in the Asian Championship when they defeated Thailand 14-3 on Wednesday to win the Asia Cup Baseball.

Kamran Junior shone with two home runs as did Latif Mughal who had two runs including a home run.

Kamran was later adjudged the best scorer of the championship which was the first ever international baseball event in Pakistan.

The home side led 11-1 at the end of the fourth innings and 14-1 after the sixth.

Pakistan remained unbeaten in the five-team tournament that also featured Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Iran.

Thailand's runs came from Anukul, Auwang and Tsang Kin.

The Asian Championship in December next year will also serve as the qualifying round for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
