KARACHI: The Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) on Thursday claimed to have arrested a policeman, who is said to be a ‘ring leader’ of a gang involved in snatching of luxury vehicles from upscale areas of Karachi, said AVLC SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi.

He added that a famous TV actress’s snatched Toyota Fortuner and another vehicle stolen from Ferozabad had been recovered along with an official weapon and narcotics from the possession of the held policeman identified as Rana Kashif.

“The suspect is a police constable posted at the Foreign Security Cell of the police,” the officer added.

“The held suspect has confessed to have snatched over two dozen vehicles from posh areas,” added the officer.

The stolen vehicles were sold to people in Balochistan, he added.

The suspect along with his accomplices had snatched a Toyota Fortuner from Darul Salam Society in Korangi on June 26, 2024, whose clear footage was available with authorities.

The suspect along with his accomplices had also snatched another Toyota Fortuner in Bukhari Commercial, Phase-VI, in DHA on Oct 7, 2024.

The Quetta police after an encounter had arrested one suspect of the gang, identified as Ayub Lala, and recovered the said vehicle from them.

The suspect along with his accomplice had snatched a Toyota Fortuner from a famous TV actress on Street-26, Khayaban-i-Muhafiz on February 6, 2025, which had been recovered.

Another vehicle, Suzuki Alto which was snatched at gunpoint from Ferozabad last year was also recovered.

Besides, the held policeman had also revealed snatching over two dozen luxury vehicles.

“Efforts are underway to arrest remaining members of the gang,” said the SSP.
