KARACHI, April 26: A suspected bandit and a pedestrian were killed while four persons, including two policemen, were wounded in a shootout in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town on Wednesday.

According to police, two armed men snatched a motorcycle from Jehangir in PIB police limits. He informed the police on 15 about the incident following which a police mobile positioned at Hasan Square tried to intercept the bandits.

The bandits abandoned the motorcycle and one of them board a rickshaw which was already occupied by Kiran, an employee of the KESC, said SHO Aziz Bhatti adding that the other suspect managed to escape.

Taking the woman hostage at gunpoint, the bandit barged into Civic Centre building and opened fire at the police. The firing created panic and confusion at the busy intersection of the city. In the shootout, the bandit was gunned down and a pedestrian sustained a fatal bullet wound while two policemen and two other pedestrians sustained bullet wounds. All the injured were taken to different hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, the woman taken hostage by the bandit collapsed. She was taken to the nearby private hospital for treatment.

Police said that the bandit killed by police could not be identified.
