KARACHI, April 26: Unauthorised constructions continue unabated in various blocks of Gulshan-i-Maymar ( Scheme-45) and yet the KBCA officials are not taking action against construction irregularities.

Various types of irregularities are being committed in almost all the blocks of Gulshan-i-Maymar, and the sectors in which a large number of residential units are being turned into commercial concerns include X, Y and Z.

A visit to the locality would show that unauthorised constructions are in full swing as most of commercial buildings are being built without approved plans and also without any supervision by engineers and architects.

Pointing out that construction was being done on columns which are as thin as 6-inch and without provision of earthquake / seismic, residents of the locality did not rule out the possibility of a collapse of such buildings.

It could also be seen that almost every third house of the locality was being converted into shops and for some other commercial purpose, besides, shops are substandard and are as small as 7x10 and 8x10, whereas the minimum size of a shop under the byelaws must be 100 square feet i.e. 10x10 or 9x11, etc.

Residents of the affected sectors also showed some commercial plots (SB-Type) which are being constructed jointly without obtaining permission for their amalgamations or proper approval from concerned department.

The building byelaws are being flouted to such an extent that even the height restrictions were being violated by some builders to construct an extra floor on weak and thin columns.

Expressing concern over such unlawful constructions, residents of the locality said construction of shops in front of houses on compulsory open space (COS) continues to rise.

They demanded of the City Nazim and chief controller of buildings to immediately stop illegal constructions in Gulshan-i-Maymar, or else the situation would go beyond their control and residents would suffer ultimately.
