KARACHI, April 25: The city government has initiated practical steps of introducing people to fine arts whereby they will be provided interesting activities through exhibitions and fairs in different towns of Karachi.

This was stated by the city’s Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, while talking to a delegation of the Arts Council led by its Vice-President Saifur Rehman Grami on Tuesday. Other members included the council’s Honorary Secretary, Farhad Zaidi, Tresurer Rizwan Siddiqi and Mahmood Ahmed Khan.

The delegation suggested the naib nazim to organise various competitions in all towns followed by a final competition for winners from all towns under the Arts Council.

Jalil said the city government was taking various steps for promoting greater awareness among people. In this regard, she referred to the campaign for protecting the old KMC and other historical buildings, and said it was part of the awareness campaign launched to make people feel that the city was their own and that protection of its buildings and properties was their responsibility.

She also informed the delegation about steps being taken for useful utilization of the auditorium of Al-Markaz Islami in the Federal B Area.

She told the delegation that lighting and sound systems had been installed at the Khaliqdina Hall on the M A Jinnah Road where the famous trial of the Ali brothers was held.

She said this would help organise various functions in continuity and provide people with an opportunity to take part in interesting and constructive activities.—APP
