LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) field operation teams have started imposing fine amounting to Rs100 (each) on those littering at the Qaddafi Stadium.

Various spectators, who came to the stadium to see the cricket match between Australia and England, were fined when they were found littering the place.

“The objective of this move is to keep the stadium, which has been reconstructed completely, clean,” a spokesman for the company told Dawn on Saturday. He said the company had declared the stadium a ‘zero waste zone’ by ensuring a litter-free environment for the spectators. He said a comprehensive cleanliness plan was being executed with deployment of 300 workers, eight washer vehicles and several mechanical sweepers. During the match, 15 workers and one supervisor were stationed at each enclosure while over 50 workers managed cleanliness of the parking areas and on its peripheries.

Inside the stadium, more than 200 workers and 15 supervisors ensured that stands, walkways and common areas remain spotless. Two water bowsers continued sprinkling water around the venue to control dust.
