KARACHI: The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) on Wednesday warned the provincial government of a strong protest if its held leader Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi was not released within three days.

The demand was made by GDA leaders Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Dr Safdar Abbasi, Dr Fehmida Mirza, Liaquat Jatoi, Sardar Rahim and Riaz Chandio at a press conference here.

They also condemned the arrest of Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) chairman Afaq Ahmed in two arson cases and said that the people were being crushed by dumper trucks in the city and the issue needed to be addressed.

Regarding Mr Jatoi, the leaders said that false cases were made against him and the GDA was already protesting on the streets against unrest, lawlessness in the province and the construction of six canals on the Indus River.

Mr Rashidi said that Pir Pagara would chair a meeting of the GDA on Feb 25 to decide the future course of action.
