RAWALPINDI: A woman was allegedly poisoned to death by her in-laws in the Race Course area of Rawalpindi.

According to police, a complainant, a resident of Abbottabad, reported that his sister was married to a man in Rawalpindi for the last eight years.

He said that on November 5, 2024, his brother-in-law’s uncle informed his uncle that his niece was sick and was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

Upon getting information that his sister was admitted to the hospital, they complained that they were not informed timely. However, he said that shortly after receiving the first call, they received another phone call informing them that his sister had expired after allegedly consuming poison.

He further alleged that his sister had been subjected to torture by her husband and in-laws for a house that had been pledged to her as ‘Haq Mehr’ — a mandatory gift or token of respect given by a husband to his wife. He alleged that his sister was poisoned to death and was buried without informing them.

Following the complaint, the Race Course police registered an FIR on Monday under section 322/34 PPC against three suspects and launched an investigation.
