KARACHI: Newly-appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police Pir Mohammed Shah on Monday directed officers to strictly enforce the 10pm to 6am timing restrictions for dumpers and heavy vehicles and ordered the seizure of ‘illegal’ water tankers without QR codes.

While addressing traffic police officers at the Scouts Auditorium, he emphasised the strict enforcement of traffic rules.

He instructed officers to ensure action against vehicles with tinted glasses, fancy number plates, unauthorised police lights and hooters. Additionally, shops involved in selling such items should be sealed with the help of local police. Bike riders without helmets should also face strict action.

The drivers without valid licences should not only be fined but also have their vehicles seized. FIRs should be registered against commercial vehicle drivers involved in reckless driving.

DIG Shah also ordered the removal of encroachments in collaboration with local police and a crackdown on rickshaws carrying extra passengers.

He stressed the need to curb underage driving, directing that vehicles driven by underage drivers be seized. Measures should also be taken to eliminate double parking and take action against the illegal ‘parking mafia.’

Furthermore, he instructed that vehicles without valid fitness certificates be impounded. He also emphasised the need for strict departmental action against corruption within the traffic police.
