KASUR: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday took notice of the death of a woman after she fell into an open manhole and a young man who jumped in to save her but also died in Pattoki on Sunday.

Kasur Deputy Commissioner Aurangzeb Haider Khan and the Pattoki Assistant Commissioner Mukkaram Sultan were made officers on special duty while two officials of Pattoki municipal committee – Chief Executive Officer Umer Farooq and Maintenance Officer Zulqernain Ali – were booked under section 322 of the PPC.

Scores of people had staged a protest demonstration against the administration for leaving a number of manholes uncovered.

Lahore Additional Commissioner Abdul Islam Arif visited Pattoki on the instructions of the CM and talked to people.

He told the media that a strict action would be taken against the officials giving a blind eye to a serious issue.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government posted Additional Secretary (Coordination) to Chief Secretary Salman Khan as Kasur deputy commissioner, but cancelled the order in the evening.

Later, the government transferred Punjab Transport Company Chief Executive Officer Imran Ali and posted him as Kasur DC.
