DOHA: Reigning amateur world snooker champion Mohammad Asif and national champion Shahid Aftab continued their strong run in the ACBS Asian Men’s Snooker Championship in Doha as both the cueists won their respective matches on Sunday.
Asif, in particular, was in scintillating form, compiling a tournament-high break of 130 in the fourth frame of his 4-0 [80-38, 61-43, 63-59, 130(130)-0] demolition of Qatar’s Mhanaa Alobaidli.
Shahid, meanwhile, had to work harder to overcome South Korea’s Seyang Heo 4-2 [14-86(73), 47-58, 56-26, 85-33, 63-54, 72(65)-06].
Shahid lost the first two frames, with Heo compiling a break of 73 in the first. However, the Pakistani champion fought back, taking the next four frames, including a break of 65 in the sixth frame to seal the victory.
