SWABI: Unknown assailants shot dead a religious figure, while a man killed his wife and later died by suicide here on Sunday.

Relatives of the deceased, Maulana Kashif, said that they didn’t have any enmity with anyone in the area, and that the motive behind the murder was not known.

District police officer Azhar Khan said an investigation was going on to ascertain the facts.

Wife of the deceased got registered an FIR, saying that her husband was critically injured when unidentified persons opened fire at him. Later, she said he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Meanwhile, a man identified as Tanveer Khan first shot dead his wife inside their room and then opened fire on himself. He was brought to a hospital in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A brother of the deceased told the police that when wife of his brother took his clothes to their room, he heard shouting and then gunshots. He said when he rushed to his brother’s room he saw that Tanveer and his wife were lying in a pool of blood.

Also, a resident, Mehboob Ali, got registered an FIR with the Yar Hussain police station, stating that he was standing in front of his house when someone said a girl’s body was lying in Rokhani area.

The complainant said when he reached the area he saw it was his daughter’s body. He said she had married two months ago, but the couple had quarrels very often. He alleged that she was killed by her husband, Arif Khan.
