LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) on Saturday joined hands for door-to-door waste collection in three housing schemes of LDA Avenue-1, Jubilee Town and Mohlanwal Scheme Phase-1.

Both organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which the LWMC agreed to start the waste collection in three housing schemes to be followed by others. As a part of Suthra Punjab Program, the LWMC will charge Rs300, Rs500 and Rs1,000 from the owners of five, 10 marla and one kanal houses, respectively. The MoU was signed by LDA Director Admin Rabia Riyasat and LWMC GM Operations Rashid Zahoor at the central park of LDA Avenue-1.

“The LWMC will start collecting waste from three LDA schemes in the first phase, providing significant relief to residents. It will help us improve cleanliness in these schemes,” said LDA DG Tahir Farooq while speaking on the occasion. He said the sustainable development models were being implemented in the LDA schemes.

Lahore DC Syed Musa Raza emphasized that the LWMC would deploy its teams in multiple shifts as ensuring cleanliness in Lahore was a top priority. He said the door-to-door waste collection system would be fully operational across the country by the end of March.

MNA Malik Afzal Khokhar lauded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, stating that developmental projects were progressing rapidly across Punjab. LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din also spoke.

Later, LWMC teams conducted a flag march on the main roads of LDA Avenue-1.
