RAWALINDI: A man and his wife, arrested for the alleged torture/death of a 12-year-old maid, were remanded in police custody for four days on Thursday.

Mian Rashid Shafiq and his wife Sana Shafiq will be produced before court on February 17.

The police had requested the court of area magistrate Mohammad Wasim Qureshi for a seven days physical remand of the suspects.

Another woman, Rubina, arrested in the case was sent to the judicial jail for 14 days. She will be produced in the court on Feb 27.

The maid, identified as Iqra, was tortured allegedly by her employers in the Asghar Mall Scheme located in the limits of Bani police.

The girl was shifted to Holy Family Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She had injuries to her head and other parts of the body.

The girl succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Tuesday night.

The police registered the case on the complaint of her father Sanaullah under the Punjab Protection of Helpless and Neglected Children Act.

After her death, murder and other sections were added to the FIR against the suspects for keeping the girl in illegal detention and torturing her to death.
