OKARA: Additional District and Sessions Judge Khalid Rehman on Monday sentenced a man and a woman to life imprisonment for the murder of her husband, along with imposing fines on both convicts.

The City B-Division police had registered first information report under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Muhammad Nasir.

According to the FIR, on the night of July 20, 2023, the complainant’s brother, Muhammad Shahid, was murdered at his home by his wife, Fatima Jabeen (mother of four minors), along with her friend Fahad and another unidentified accomplice. The suspects attacked Shahid with repeated blows from an ice pick before fleeing the scene.

After the completion of the trial, the court awarded life imprisonment to Fatima Jabeen, along with a fine of Rs100,000, payable to the legal heirs of the victim. In case of non-payment, she would have to serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.

Her friend Fahad, was also sentenced to life imprisonment. However, due to his juvenility, he was additionally ordered to pay a fine of Rs500,000 to the victim’s legal heirs. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.

Following the verdict, both convicts were transferred to Okara District Jail to serve their sentences.

ACCIDENTS: A woman was killed while three others sustained injuries in two separate roadside accidents.

In the first incident, a truck hit a motorcycle on GT Road near Pul Jurian, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Sidra, a University of Okara student. Her pillion rider, Shoaib Iqbal, also a UO student, suffered injuries. Both were BS students at the university and were traveling from their village, Talvandi, to the campus when the accident occurred.

In another incident near Amanwala on Hujra-Chunian Road, a car collided with a motorcycle, leaving both riders, Aslam and Fazeelat, critically injured.

Rescue 1122 teams shifted the deceased and the injured to the respective area hospitals for further medical treatment and legal formalities.
