OKARA: A man wanted in a rape case was killed by the bullets of his two unidentified accomplices during an alleged encounter with police on Thursday.

As per first information report (FIR), registered with Chorista Mian Khan Police Station, a patrol team, headed by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf, was present near village Dhermanwala when it received a call.

The caller informed the policemen that Ghulam Mustafa, a resident of Kandowal, was deprived of his motorcycle, cash and other valuables by three bikers and they were heading towards village Rathor Lehna Singh.

Police started chasing them and called re-enforcement from Basirpur and Haveli.

The patrol police signaled three armed men on motorcycles to stop near Rathor Lehna Singh but they allegedly opened fire on police who retaliated. After some time, firing stopped and police found a man lying dead by the roadside. His accomplices escaped.

Police found a weapon, two bullets, a motorcycle and Rs35,000 cash from the pockets of the deceased. The body was shifted to the DHQ City Hospital.

The deceased was later identified as Hasan, a resident of Chak 38/4-L, tehsil Okara, who was nominated in 18 heinous crimes cases registered with various police stations of the district.

Chorista Mian Khan police on the report of SI Muhammad Ashraf registered a case, including a rape case.

INJURED: Three passers-by were injured as the gun of a security guard of the Government Girls Elementary School (GES) went off in South City.

According to police, the security guard was on duty at the gate in the Siddique Nagar Street when his gun went off. As a result, three passers-by, including a teenage boy, suffered minor wounds.
