KARACHI, April 22: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman on Saturday asked for early installation of combined effluent plants in Site and four other industrial estates of Karachi including the North Karachi, Federal B Area, Landhi and Korangi industrial estates.

Presiding over a meeting to review progress regarding the installation of combined effluent plants, he said that unsafe disposal of industrial waste was a threat for human and aquatic life.

He said all concerned departments should evolve coordination and take joint steps for early installation of the combined effluent plants.

The meeting, on the request of the DCO Jamshoro, also reviewed matters related to the disposal of waste by thermal power station near Jamshoro.

It decided that DCO Jamshoro, managing director of Site Limited and a representative of the environment department would visit the area around the Thermal Power Station Jamshoro and submit their report in a week.

The meeting directed the Environment and Alternate Energy Department to conduct a lab test of the used industrial water and of the thermal power station, as well as, its industrial waste, and send the report to the Irrigation and Power Department within a week, so that a solution to this issue could be sought with the help of Wapda.—PPI
