BAHAWALPUR: An under-trial prisoner hurled his shoe at a civil judge in his court here on Tuesday.

According to the court and police sources, Abdul Rehman, who was in prison in a theft case, was produced before the court Civil Judge Zahid Iqbal for hearing of his case. The case was being heard when Rehman hurled his shoe at the civil judge’s face.

He attempted to throw his second shoe at the judge when he was overpowered by the lawyers present in the courtroom.

He was handed over to the police who took him to the Cantonment Police Station, Bahawalpur, for legal action and registration of a case against him.

Police spokesperson told Dawn the judge pardoned Rehman that’s why police did not take any action against him.

RANSOM: An employee of Rescue 1122 Khanewal and resident of Jaswant Nagar was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons for ransom.

According to police, Ali Rehmani told his family that he was going with his friends yesterday but did not return until late at night, raising alarm. His parents on their mobile numbers received his picture with torture marks on his body and torn uniform with a message from the kidnappers who demanded Rs5m ransom.

The unidentified abductors also threatened that in case of default of payment, they would take him in the Katcha area.

The parents complained to the Khanewal City police and a case was registered against unidentified kidnappers.

DEATH TOLL: With one more death today, the death toll in the LPG container explosion in Multan reached 19. The man who breathed his last on Tuesday was identified as Abdul Rehman (35).

Meanwhile, eight patients were discharged from the burn unit of Nishtar Hospital. Now, there were 13 more burnt patients left in the ward.

In another incident, Muhammad Farooq (18) was burnt after catching fire from an LPG cylinder when he was making tea at his house in Rehmanabad Colony, Qaimpur, in tehsil Hasilpur.

The rescuers shifted him to the THQ hospital in critical condition.

DACOITS: One Muhammad Nadeem of Chak 52/WB in the area of Thingi Police Station in district Vehari was killed by a robbers’ gang.

According to police, robbers were robbing road users by blocking the road and they snatched Rs50,000 from a man in the suburbs Chak 46/WB near Thingi. At this, several villagers attempted to confront the robbers, who allegedly opened fire on them, killing Nadeem.

On receipt of information, Thingi police rushed to the scene but the suspects had already escaped. Police registered a murder and robbery case against the unidentified suspects.

COINS: Jalalpurpur police in Lodhran district booked four persons, namely Aslam, Khalid, Abdullah and Husnain, for illegally excavating and recovering rare and precious coins of an old civilization from its area.

They were booked by the police on the complaint of an official of the archaeology department.

Police registered a case.
