GUJRAT: Students and teachers of Government Zamindar College on Tuesday held a demonstration against torture of the college watchman and hurling threats at the faculty by a police guard.

The protesters gathered at the main gate of college after Head Constable Aamir performing security duty at the college gate allegedly tortured a watchman who tried to stop some students from entry for being late but the cop allowed them to enter that infuriated the watchman.

When some senior teachers, including Syed Iftikhar Shah, intervened, the policeman hurled threats and pointed gun at them.

After this, students and teachers held a protest and blocked the Bhimbher Road and chanted slogans against police.

Speaking to the participants, Prof Shah demanded registration of a case against the policeman and his dismissal from service.

Meanwhile, DSP Aamir Sheerazi and other senior officials reached the college and held talks with protesters in the principal’s office. The DSP said District Police Officer Dr Mustansar Atta Bajwa had suspended the policeman and ordered an inquiry against him.

Civil Lines police have registered a case against Head Constable Muhammad Aamir on the report of Prof Bilawal Hussain, the in-charge of the security affairs of the college.

The complainant alleged that Aamir was also been found involved in frisking female students on several occasions.
