KASUR: A suspect who had allegedly escaped from custody was gunned down in an alleged encounter with police at village Mithradas in the area of Phoolnagar Police Station on Monday.

Police, however, claimed that the suspect, Abu Sufyan, was killed by his accomplices in an exchange of fire. Police also claimed that the robber had shot dead a milkman, named Imran of village Sattoki, during a robbery near village Raja Jang about a month back.

According to the official report, Raja Jang police was taking Abu Sufyan to Phoolnagar for recovery in connection with a criminal case when his two unidentified accomplices attacked the police van and got Sufyan released from custody. Police chased the suspects and also informed Phoolnagar police through a wireless message.

Police and suspects had a confrontation at a picket near village Mithradas and exchanged fire. When the firing stopped, police found Sufyan’s body.

A murder case was lodged against the escaped suspects. Police claimed that the deceased was wanted in over a dozen cases of robbery and murder.
