The Israeli military released an initial statement saying it detonated a residential block of 20 homes because it claims it was used for “terror infrastructure”, Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut reports.

“The Israeli military has been conducting this raid for nearly two weeks,” the reporter adds. “The siege on Jenin is still ongoing and these unprecedented scenes that we are seeing today mark quite an escalation.”

Salhut reports that the Israeli army has set up multiple roadblocks and other checkpoints across the occupied West Bank and there have been at least 27 Palestinians who have been killed.

“Many of them are civilians, including a two-year-old girl who was shot in the head while eating dinner at home with her family, and a 73-year-old elderly man shot by Israeli forces this morning,” Salhut reports.
