Former US president Joe Biden has hailed the release of Keith Siegel, saying he “can only imagine the relief and joy” the former captive’s family must be feeling, Al Jazeera reports.

Biden in a post on X emphasised that Siegel was released as “part of the ceasefire deal my team and I negotiated” and said he looks forward to the remaining captives being reunited with their families soon.

The statement comes as both Biden and Trump claim credit for the truce deal in Gaza. The agreement mirrored the framework of a proposal Biden made last May, but was helped over the line by a Trump envoy, Al Jazeera notes.
