LAHORE, April 21: Religious Affairs Minister Ijazul Haq has said terrorists are trying to destabilise the government by targeting sensitive areas.
He told journalists before attending a wedding ceremony at the Police Club here on Friday evening that the terrorists had struck in Quetta in Moharram and a religious institution in Karachi before the recent suicide bombing in Nishtar Park.
He said all possible efforts were being made to establish the identity of the suicide bomber involved in the attack. Plastic surgeons were trying to reconstruct the face of the bomber from the head found after the incident. Those involved in the bombing would be awarded exemplary punishment, he added.
He said the government had decided to constitute religious harmony councils of ulema belonging to all the sects at the federal and provincial level. The federal council would hold its first meeting next week.
Registration of seminaries was in progress. More than 10,000 seminaries had been registered and the government did not plan to impose any restrictions on them. It wanted the seminaries to include secondary school syllabus in their course so that the students could take matric examination, he continued.
Mr Haq said the government would check the inclusion of sectarian material in the syllabi being taught at the seminaries.
He said the new Haj policy would be announced next month.
