LAHORE: A sessions court on Wednesday awarded death penalty to a man on charges of rape and murder of a minor girl.

Manawan police had registered an FIR of the incident against convict Ali Raza. He was accused of raping an eight-year-old girl, killing her and throwing the body in a pool.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tanvir Awan announced the guilty verdict in light of the prosecution evidence presented against the convict during the trial.

A large number of people had gathered outside the court before the announcement of the verdict.

DISMISSED: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal against the life sentence of a man convicted for raping a nine-year-old girl, ruling that the offender does not deserve any leniency.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry and Justice Amjad Rafiq heard the appeal of convict Qamar Zaman.

The bench upheld the trial court’s decision and rejected the appeal, stressing that such criminals are not entitled to any relief.

The trial court had sentenced the convict to life imprisonment.
