SUKKUR: The recent killing of, what police described as a dacoit carrying a head-money of Rs0.5m, triggered a controversy involving the Rind and Narejo clans in Khairpur.

The police identified the deceased as Kouro Rind, and claimed that his was mistakenly shot dead by his own associates during a mugging incident.

They said Kouro and his associates were trying to snatch a motorcycle from a man in the Mill Colony area but faced resistance by the man and some onlookers on Saturday. The muggers opened fire but Kouro, along with two passersby suffered a fatal bullet wound, they said.

A day later, members of the Rind clan took his body to the front of the SSP office to protest against his murder. They alleged that Kouro was actually killed by certain members of the rival Narejo clan while he was buying vegetables.

They claimed that the shots were fired by a retired policeman belonging to the Narejo clan.

They said the killer had staged a drama of mugging in collusion with the B-Section police of Khairpur.

On the other hand, Narejo clansmen held a protest against the police for detaining several of their fellows in connection with Kouro’s murder

Khairpur SSP Tauheed-ur-Rehman Memon said that the Kouro was wanted by police in many cases of heinous crime and had a tag of Rs500,000 on his head.
