ISLAMABAD: The court of Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti on Tuesday sought an explanation from the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Islamabad police about the implementation of the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case involving the alleged recovery of illegal arms and liquor.

During a hearing held on Tuesday, Mr Gandapur once again did not appear in the court despite repeated summons. His lawyer Raja Zahoorul Hassan submitted another petition seeking exemption from his personal appearance.

The judge noted that this pattern of repeated exemption requests and failure to present the accused was causing unnecessary delays and wasting the court’s time.

The judge remarked, “Every time, you file an exemption application and fail to produce the accused. This is an abuse of court procedures. The arrest warrants remain unexecuted, and no compliance report has been submitted.”

The lawyer argued that the court should first decide on Mr Gandapur’s acquittal application, claiming there was an existing court order in this regard. However, the judge emphasised that the law must be followed and reiterated the importance of implementing judicial orders.

The court maintained the non-bailable arrest warrant against Mr Gandapur and directed authorities concerned to ensure compliance.

The hearing has been adjourned until January 29 with the judge warning of serious consequences if the orders were not implemented.

The case against Mr Gandapur was registered by Bhara Kahu police of Islamabad after alleged recovery of illegal arms and liquor from his possession in 2017.
