17 BVH doctors suspended

BAHAWALPUR, April 19: The Punjab health secretary has issued suspension orders of 17 doctors of Bahawal Victoria Hospital on the charges of dereliction of duty, negligence and carelessness, it is learnt.

A two-member committee headed by principal of Sheikh Zayed College, Rahim Yar Khan, Prof Dr Eice Muhammad, paid a surprise visit on Wednesday night and later on Thursday on the directive of Punjab chief minister.

Though the names of suspended doctors have not yet been made public, it is believed that most of them would be on key posts.

It may be recalled that seven officials, including five doctors, were suspended while QMC principal was transferred.

The suspended doctors and officials have been directed to report to Lahore.

WHEAT PROCUREMENT: The delayed wheat procurement campaign of the food department will be launched here on Thursday.

According to a food department official, 355,000 metric tons of wheat will be procured at 52 centres in the three districts — Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

The department will procure 145,000 tons of wheat at 18 centres in Bahawalpur, 150,000 tons at 19 centres in Bahawalnagar and 60,000 tons at 15 centres i Rahim Yar Khan.

Boycott: Nine cricket clubs out of total 19 boycotted the election of Bahawalpur Cricket Association conducted by the PCB here on Wednesday.

The eligible participating nine clubs protested against the partial attitude of the PCB’s regional development officer (Multan), Lt-Col Mansoor Saeed (retired), and after boycotting the election recorded their joint protest.

MURDER: Azam allegedly murdered his younger brother Alam over a property dispute in Chak 13/BC here on Wednesday.

Baghdadul Jadid police have registered a case.
