HYDERABAD, April 19: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district government will establish a skill training centre to help control unemployment in the district.
Presiding over a meeting held on Tuesday to consider construction and renovation of a girls college and girls hostel in Public School Latifabad, he said the centre would start functioning in May or June.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the development work being carried out in the public school under an approved development scheme.
The nazim directed the project consultant and the director to accelerate the pace of work and ensure the quality of construction.
He advised the public school administration to improve the quality of education and find out ways and means to increase the income of the school.
Kanwar Naveed Jamil said unemployment, which had become the major problem of society, was leading people to crime.
Quoting a research, he said 90 per cent crimes were committed out of pressing needs while the 10 per cent for fun.
The district nazim said the law enforcement agencies could control the 10 per cent crime, but to eliminate the 90 per cent, unemployment would have to be arrested.
Therefore, he said, the district government had decided to establish the skill training centre to alleviate unemployment as far as possible.
He said the centre would offer training in plumbing, tyre and tube repairing, colour plastering, stone finishing, computer drawing, electrical works and in other trades.
The training, he said, would be non-conventional for which no educational certificate would be needed. There would be no age limit for the training.
He said the Camy Group of Industries had offered cooperation not only to provide building but also to help trained persons with setting up their business.
EDO Works and Services Abdul Haleem Ghori, principal Public School Professor Abbas Raza Abbasi, project consultant Shafi Mohammad Lakho, Engineer Hafeez Mughal and Contractor Qamar Abbas were present on the occasion.
DRAINAGE PROBLEM: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district government is trying to solve drainage problem on permanent basis with the help of NGOs.
Though Hyderabad faced sewerage problems, it was not in the seismic zone and safe from earthquakes as well as cyclones and floods.
He was presiding over a meeting of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) and district government officials at the Nazim Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Stressing the need for creating awareness among people of natural calamities, he said that under a pilot project, the district government would train builders, officials concerned, teachers and youth in managing natural disasters.
He said that to help get rid of sewerage and other civic problems the district government had earmarked 5,000 acres of land in the Kohisar zone to settle people.
About the solid waste management, the nazim said the city produced 700 tons of garbage daily and the district government was working in two shifts to dispose of the trash to keep the city neat and clean.
