QUETTA, April 18: Provincial Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over improvement in the standard of education offered by Balochistan University and said the government as well as students and teachers were responsible for the achievement.

Speaking at the university’s sixth convocation on Tuesday, Mr Ghani said the government was spending billions of rupees to ensure progress of secondary and higher education in the province.

Mr Ghani said the government believed that more investment in this important sector would put the province on the path of progress and prosperity.

The governor said the budget of the education sector exceeded Rs6 billion and the monthly expenditure of each student was Rs700.

He said that although educational institutions and basic infrastructure were available in Balochistan education was not being imparted in these institutions.

To further improve the standard of education and produce intelligent students, Mr Ghani said, revolutionary steps have to be initiated. “To achieve this objective all of us have to make concerted efforts,” he said.

The governor said that the world’s developed nations had achieved status and success owing to excellence in education and technology. He also stressed the need for teachers and students to work harder for further improvement in the standard of education.

Over the last four years, he said, special attention has been paid to this sector and the number of universities has risen to six. Two other universities will be established soon, he added.

The governor awarded degrees and gold medals to the students.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University Ghulam Muhammad Taj highlighted the performance and development projects of the university.
