KARACHI, April 18: Various parts of the city remained in the grip of acute water shortage, giving boost to sale of private tankers in the affected localities.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have been received from residents of Clifton’s Block 2, Ashraf Colony, Mehmoodabad, different blocks of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, North Karachi, North Nazimabad’s blocks B, C, H, L, S and T, parts of Lines Area, Dehli Colony, Pakistan Chowk, Haquani Chowk, Orangi Town’s Sector 11 ½, Ittehad Town, Baloch Colony, Ghausia Colony, Benazir Colony, Azam Nagar, Chishti Colony and a portion of Urdu Chowk.

Compliants of water shortage have also been received from Pak Kausar Town, Kausar Town, Indus Mehran, G and H areas and Saudia Colony’s Sectors 8-B, A and Sector-9 in Malir Khokhrapar.

Residents of the affected areas complained that it was for the last one month or so that they were being supplied water with a low pressure, besides duration of their supply had also been reduced.

Deploring the persisting water shortage, they said whenever they approach the KWSB’s officials concerned to register their complaints, they are told that since water was being supplied in less quantity from both the sources — Indus and Hub — they themselves are facing difficulties in ensuring equitable distribution of water.

Suspecting some foul play in the water distribution network, residents of different affected localities said it seems that their water distribution system had been given solely in the hands of valve-men.
