RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police have issued a plan to ensure the convenience of the public and traffic flow on the eve of the new year.

“The aim of this plan is to provide safe and easy travel to the citizens and make the anti-one-wheeling measures effective,” said a spokesman.

As part of the traffic plan, 113 officers and wardens will perform duty at night between December 31 and January 1, while 50 officers and wardens will be deployed near parks.

Moreover, an anti-one-wheeling squad has been formed, comprising four circle officers, 16 senior traffic wardens, 86 wardens and 33 traffic assistants and senior traffic assistants.

Special campaign launched to educate citizens about importance of traffic rules, benefits of following them, says CTO

On the instructions of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima, the traffic police have also launched a special campaign in which citizens are being informed about the importance of traffic rules and the benefits of following them.

The CTO directed the traffic staff to behave politely with the public and guide them so that the new year’s night is pleasant and peaceful.

She said the citizens should contact the traffic police helpline 051-9274843 in any emergency situation, avoid one-wheeling, hooliganism and any kind of law violation.

Parents have been urged to keep their children away from irresponsible activities.

Traffic plan for Murree

Chief Traffic Officer Murree Mughees Ahmed Hashmi has issued a plan under which leaves of traffic wardens have been cancelled with the formation of special squads of traffic wardens to check rule violations and facilitate tourists.

Under the plan, Mall Road will remain closed for all types of traffic. Action will be taken against underage drivers, bike riders without helmets and vehicles without number plates. Strict action will be taken against one-wheeling and motorcyclists without silencers.

The CTO Murree said strict action will be taken against vehicles with black windows or colored paper so that no unpleasant incident occurs anywhere in the area.

“City Traffic Police Murree is trying to provide all possible facilities to the public and tourists,” he said. He requested the citizens to follow the instructions of the traffic wardens/officers standing at the points and the signboards on the roads as they play an important role in making life safe and travel easier.

Impersonator arrested

Beat-in-charge Jhikka Gali Malik Mohammad Hafeez was performing duty when he stopped a vehicle for violating traffic rules. The driver identified himself as an employee of an intelligence agency.

Upon checking, however, he was found to be impersonating as an intelligence officer. The suspect was handed over to the police for registration of case against him.

The CTO Murree appreciated Mr Hafeez and his team for the quick action against the suspect and announced appreciation certificates for them.
